5. Computer in the Workplace
The industry I've chosen is the current one I'm working in, supply chain management. A brief summary of what I do is supply customers with the parts to repair different aircraft types. We constantly use the computer to get those supplies to them as soon as possible, or it can hurt the mission. It's vital to have at least some basic knowledge of using a computer, so it's easier for the employee to work with the customers.
In this field, we use Windows OS, Adobe, Office 365, Supply Chain Program, TEAMS, etc . . . Having some knowledge of operating systems and software can be beneficial because we use them daily. There are days when the employee needs to make a spreadsheet, word processing file, or digitally sign a form. Knowing shortcuts within the operating system can help the employee maneuver in the supply program way more manageable, which means they can get the job done faster. If an employee doesn't know how to use a computer, they will struggle immensely because learning operating systems can take a long time to retain the knowledge; as to someone who already knows the basics, they can expand that knowledge. It's tough for this job to function without the help of the internet since most data is tracked and stored there. When we don't have a network, we are almost in a standstill situation; until we can get back our connection, we can't help the customers find parts or process backorders.
The future of technology is bright; most businesses will become paperless, and all data will be stored in their own company drives. At this point, there's no stopping the evolution of tech, and it's becoming more and more helpful to humans as a way to get the job done faster and more efficiently. This industry, like Amazon, is already way ahead of the game as they've made stores completely contactless. The customers can buy what they want without the need to check out. The AI will scan the products and charge them to their card automatically. I hope all other supply chains can get to this route as soon as possible.
